About the Trip
We were asked to apply for the WARC ( The World Adolescent Robotics Competition) by Chinese ambassadors after competing at the World Championships in St. Louis Missouri. We were accepted as the first of 6 international teams to compete in Beijing on November 21, 2015. The tournament was 2 days long, and we stayed in China for a total of 8 days. The other competitions that occurred within WARC included WRO, FRC, and VEX. Along with the competition the largest robotics expo (WRC) was occurring. This allowed us to see lots of cool inventions and advances in robotics.

International Outreach Ambassadors
While we were at the tournament we performed numerous outreach events/sessions to share our knowledge of robotics and get others interested in joining a team.
Day 1: We took a 1.5 hour plane ride to Detroit, where we then boarded a 14 hour plane ride to Beijing. We arrived exhausted and hungry.
Day 2: The team woke up late and got ready. We walked to the mall and went for lunch. The majority of the team ate a dumpling soup. We then went to the convention center (where the competition was located) and spent the day meeting teams and setting up the pit. Afterwards we went to the friendship dinner. About 1,000 people came to this. These people consisted of teams, members of CAST, and other high up officials like Don Bossi (president of FIRST) At this we performed Party In the USA on stage.
Day 3: Day 3 was the first day of the competition. We ran a total of 5 robot runs. Overall our robot did okay. We did have quite a few connection issues though along with all the other teams. At the end of the day they picked final alliances. The top 4 teams got to pick 1 alliance each. We were picked by TSS Australia. We then spent the next hour with them trying to troubleshoot the issues with the robot.
Day 4: Day 4 was the second and final day of the competition. Sadly our alliance got out during semi finals due to more connection issues. We were okay with it though because by then we had become pretty good friends with the members of TSS. At the end of the competition we then went back to the place where the friendship dinner was hosted for awards and closing ceremonies. We got the teamwork award, and our alliance got the award equivalent to inspire! Afterwards 2 of the members got to go to a tv station in downtown Beijing.
Day 5: Day 5 was our first day outside of the competition. We started off by heading back to the convention center and spending some time looking at the robotics in WRC. We then boarded the subway to go to the Summer Palace. Afterwards we tested our bartering skills at the pearl market.
Day 6: Day 6 was spent on the Great Wall of China! Our team loved it so much! We ended up climbing pretty high up. Afterwards we went to the jade factory. Then we went out for a nice fancy dinner of duck since it was Thanksgiving.
Day 7: Our last official day in China was jam packed. We started off with going to Tiananmen Square, and the Forbidden City. We then went to the Temple of Heaven. Afterwards we went to a traditional tea house and learned about Chinese tea. Lastly we went back to the pearl market since we loved it so much the first time. It was coming back from that, that we got to experience rush hour on a subway.
Day 8: We flew home!
